Menrad takes sustainability seriously as a multi-layered process and also shows conscious action in further steps in addition to climate neutrality and investment in significant, certified climate protection projects:
In 2022, the first JOOP! organic acetate eyewear collection was launched. With a focus on sustainability, Menrad uses acetate and sun lenses that are biodegradable and therefore have less impact on the environment both during production and at the end of their service life.
When manufacturing glasses at the production site, production offcuts, overhangs and defective frames are also collected, recycled and in some cases processed into new acetate plates. For metal models, only stainless steel and titanium are used, which are sustainable and recycled or recyclable materials in themselves.
Since the beginning of 2022, all POS material has been made predominantly from sustainable, certified material (FSCE).
A gradual switch to sustainable product labelling is also being examined.
Environmentally friendly, recycled polybags are already being used for the majority of spectacle shipments.
In order to reduce its climate-damaging emissions, Menrad has also decided to switch the company headquarters in Schwäbisch Gmünd to green electricity, replace the company vehicle fleet with lower-emission cars and is encouraging its employees to travel less, hold more video conferences and also create the option of working from home.
Menrad has also made its international company locations (Brazil, France, Italy, Middle East, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Turkey, UK & Ireland) climate-neutral on its own initiative by investing in the climate protection projects listed above (plus 415 certificates).
In the future, Menrad will continue to focus on making a significant contribution to a sustainable future as far as possible. This concerns all aspects of responsibility, both economically, ecologically and socially.
